Since 2022, I have been actively involved in the library industry, volunteering at my local library, working in archives, and volunteering for Friends of Washoe County Library. My passion has always been related to books, and when I discovered the library accepted volunteers, I realized I found one of my true callings (other than my dog, of course).

UNR Special Collections and Archives (Reading Room Assistant)

Introduction

University of Nevada-Reno's Special Collections and Archives is a branch of the Knowledge Center, the primary library on the campus. It houses all the university archives as well as community collection, such as the Reno Gazette photos.

Work Scope

Overseeing the reading room
Supervising patrons and general patron assistance
Answering calls and directing
Occasionally assisting with archival projects: transcribing folders with negatives
Shelving using Library of Congress
Acting as a Laison between patron and staff

Friends of Washoe County Library (Volunteer)

Introduction

Friends of Washoe County Library is a nonprofit organization dedicated to help fund libraries and promote literacy. They are composed only of volunteers and were established in 1980.

April 2025-Present

Work Scope

Acting as an on-call graphic designer for flyers, coupons, cards, and more
Assisting with marketing efforts, including social media templates
Creating and implementing brand guidelines, including for sub-brand "Pet Friends"
Attending occasional board meetings

Assisting with general library duties, including (but not limited to) shelving, shelf reading, shifting, book processing, missing books, and retrieving holds
Creating displays for programs and seasonal use
Helping with SaturYay! and other programs, including the Pokemon Drawing camp, slime, and Paws 2 Read
Occasionally assisting patrons during programs and throughout the library
